Month-Long Kupwara Operation Concludes

Month Long Kupwara

The Army has concluded a month-long anti-insurgency operation in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

One of the longest such operations in the Valley, it was launched after the Army spotted a group of militants near the Line of Control and established cordon around 25 villages.

The cordon has now been completely lifted, officials said. However, patrolling in the forests is still on. A senior Army officer told The Indian Express, “The Army has withdrawn from the villages. Searches are still on in the forests.”

It was during this search operation that Commanding Officer Santosh Mahadik got killed on November 17.

The Army said the militant group originally comprised five members, of which one was killed and the other slipped off a mountain and died.
